Wanted – Volunteers for Science and Engineering Challenge

The Science and Engineering Challenge is a national event organised by The University of Newcastle. Schools are invited to bring teams of students to participate in science and engineering based challenge activities. Activities range from bridge building and catapults to earthquake proof buildings, flat pack furniture and communication and power networks and design.

The Discovery Day is aimed at primary school students and will take place on Thursday 18 May and already we have students from Binnu, Mingenew, Chapman Valley as well as many schools in Geraldton registered to attend this even. The Challenge Day is aimed at students in year 9 and 10 and will take place on Wednesday 17 May, all schools in Geraldton and Dongara have registered to attend. Students and teachers find the days to be fun, exciting and inspiring.

In order for the activities to run we require volunteers to help run activities on the day, overseen by University of Newcastle organisers. Volunteers can help for one or both days, even small portions of time are very valuable. To volunteer all you need is interest, enthusiasm and passion. You do not need to be an expert – you will matched up with activities that will be most suitable and some training is provided prior to the day in the form of videos etc (plus you get fed on the day). The event organisers understand that time is very valuable and so they’d love to help promote your involvement through displaying company banners and logos etc. They are also seeking financial support so if your company can help in this way please don’t hesitate to contacts them using the details below.
