Who are you?
Russell Browne – Scientist (Occupational hygiene & radiation specialist) with a Degree in Environmental Science and a Masters in Occupational Hygiene and Toxicology.
What’s your most memorable science experience?
Learning about electrical resistance in physics at high school – we put a capacitor in an electrical socket and when the power was turned on it exploded. Looking back, it was pretty dangerous and stupid but that is what makes it memorable.
Who is your favourite scientist and why?
Marie Curie – pioneered radiation research discovering two new elements; Raduim and Polonium. Madam Curie won two Nobel Prizes in 1903 for Physics and 1911 for Chemistry. Her work led to the development of x-ray machines etc. Way ahead of her time – what an absolute star.
What first got you interested in science?
I have always been interested in finding out how things work (physics) and have a real love of nature. I’m always interested in learning new things, which is what science is all about.
